Consul General Manawi Meets with Deputy Chief Constable of Vancouver Police Department
On October 29, 2025, Consul General Ramin Manawi met with Deputy Chief Constable Howard Chow at the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) headquarters. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Consulate General of Afghanistan and the VPD in matters concerning the safety, protection, and well-being of the Afghan community in British Columbia.
 
Consul General Manawi raised several key issues affecting refugees and newcomers, including community safety, harassment and hate crime prevention, trust-building with law enforcement, and the need for greater outreach to youth and families. The discussion also addressed mental health and war-related trauma among refugees, emphasizing the importance of culturally sensitive support and trauma-informed policing.
 
Deputy Chief Chow welcomed the Consul General’s engagement and reaffirmed the VPD’s commitment to serving all communities with fairness and respect. He also introduced the VPD Cadet Program, which helps educate and mentor youth from diverse backgrounds to become active and responsible members of society. Both sides expressed interest in exploring ways to connect youth with this valuable initiative.
 
The Consulate General of Afghanistan in Vancouver appreciates the constructive dialogue with the Vancouver Police Department and looks forward to continued cooperation in promoting community safety, inclusion, and mutual understanding.
