Consul General Manawi attends a reception hosted by Her Honour Wendy Cocchia, Lieutenant Governor of BC, and Dr. Ricardo Arredondo, Dean of the Consular Corps
On January 20, 2026, Consul General Ramin Manawi attended a reception hosted by Her Honour Wendy Cocchia, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and Dr. Ricardo Arredondo, Dean of the Consular Corps. The reception was attended by Consuls General of many countries, senior government officials, and representatives of major institutions based in BC.
The keynote address was delivered by Rear-Admiral David Patchell, Commander of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific. In his remarks, Rear-Admiral Patchell presented an overview of Canada’s Maritime Forces, their operational mandate, and ongoing activities on the Pacific coast. He addressed evolving maritime security dynamics, including regional and global challenges, the importance of readiness and modernization, and the need to adjust to new strategic realities. He also highlighted opportunities for cooperation among neighbouring countries and allies, emphasizing interoperability, shared responsibility, and coordinated responses to emerging risks.
The reception provided an important forum for dialogue between the diplomatic community and Canada’s defence leadership, reinforcing engagement on maritime security and international cooperation.
