Statement by Consul General Ramin Manawi on the Occasion of Canada Day 2026
On the occasion of Canada Day, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and warmest wishes to the Government and people of Canada, and especially to the people of British Columbia, as they celebrate this national day.
Canada Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the values that define Canada - diversity, inclusion, and respect for human dignity and democratic principles. These values continue to inspire people around the world.
We express our appreciation for Canada’s steadfast support for the people of Afghanistan, and for the collective efforts of federal, provincial, and municipal institutions, settlement organizations, civil society, and countless Canadians who have extended compassion and opportunity to many people seeking safety. Through these efforts, thousands of families have been able to rebuild their lives with dignity, contribute to their new communities, and look to the future with renewed hope.
We also acknowledge Canada’s unwavering commitment to human rights, democracy, and gender equality. At a time when women and girls in Afghanistan continue to endure unprecedented restrictions on their rights, education, employment, and participation in public life, Canada’s consistent advocacy on their behalf carries profound significance. We are equally proud of Afghan-Canadian women, whose achievements across education, healthcare, business, public service, academia, and community leadership exemplify resilience, talent, and the enduring aspirations of the people.
We are equally proud of the Afghan-Canadian community, which has become an integral part of Canada’s multicultural fabric. Across British Columbia and throughout the country, they are contributing in diverse fields and serving as a vital bridge between our two nations.
On this special day, we recognize the growing people-to-people ties between Afghanistan and Canada, built on mutual respect, shared experiences, and enduring goodwill. These connections continue to strengthen through education, cultural exchange, and community engagement.
As we celebrate Canada’s national day, we reaffirm our commitment to further strengthening the friendship between the people of Afghanistan and Canada, and to working closely with our Canadian partners and diaspora communities in advancing understanding, cooperation, and shared aspirations for a more peaceful and inclusive future.
On behalf of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Vancouver, I wish all Canadians a joyful and Happy Canada Day.
