Consul General Ramin Manawi attends Consular Corps of BC event with Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley
On November 18, 2025, Consul General Ramin Manawi joined several Consuls General at a briefing organized by the Consular Corps of British Columbia, where Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and senior city officials presented an overview of the city’s major plans and policy directions. The Mayor outlined Burnaby’s long-term planning framework, including its alignment with the Metro 2050 Regional Growth Strategy and the City’s ongoing work on the Official Community Plan. He also highlighted several key municipal strategies such as the Economic Development Strategy, the Environmental Sustainability Strategy, the Housing and Homelessness Strategy, the Social Sustainability Strategy, the Food System Strategy, the City Energy Strategy, and the Zero-Emission Building Retrofit Strategy.
 
A significant part of the speech focused on Burnaby’s 10-year Housing and Homelessness Strategy, which is built around five core goals, fifteen strategies, and ninety actions aimed at creating inclusive and livable neighborhoods, ensuring secure housing tenure, strengthening protections for renters, expanding non-market housing options, and making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring. City officials also discussed major initiatives such as the comprehensive Zoning Bylaw Rewrite, ongoing work to expand mass timber construction for more sustainable building, and the establishment of the Burnaby Housing Authority to coordinate housing development and policy. Updates were also provided on major development activities across the city, the Connecting Burnaby mobility initiatives, the Burnaby Transportation Plan, and the City’s continued prioritization of public safety and community well-being.
 
During the engagement session, Consul General Manawi had the opportunity to discuss relevant matters with senior city officials.
